2nd ANNIVERSARY : VIEWER MAIL

If there's one thing we can't get enough of here at TJ-Hooker.com, it's viewer mail. The amount of email we receive is staggering, so much that we can't possibly respond to it all in a timely manner. But it's nice to know that the hard work we put in to the site doesn't go unnoticed. It's the emails we receive, both encouraging and discouraging, that inspire us to press on with our mission of providing the world with the absolute greatest source of T.J. Hooker information available in any medium. Emails like the ones you'll find below give us a chuckle, make us scratch our heads, or give us an idea for a great new feature.

Once again, as we look back on another year of service, it's time to dip into our mailbag and share some of our favorite correspondences. Keep those letters coming (info@tj-hooker.com)!

Subject: Pain

Hello Jim I have just spent a fair time searching thru all the episodes looking for an episode about a punk rock band called "pain" that I believe T J had a run in with in one of the episodes please point me in the right direction,as i would be greatful for any information.

Sounds like a terrific premise, given Hooker's preference for rockabilly, but we must admit you've stumped us. Can any of you out there help this person out? Send a message to info@tj-hooker.com.

Whoa! Although we're inclined to praise just about any Rex Smith vehicle (especially "The Pirates of Penzance"), rating "Street Hawk" above a masterpiece like T.J. Hooker is preposterous. It's like trying to compare a Harlequin romance to War & Peace.

What's that? "Street Hawk" is available on video? Where's the justice!

Subject: when is TJ hooker coming back on TV??

Dear Staff: I'm a cop show fan. and I would like to know when is TJ HOOKER coming back on television. It has been a long time since I seen this show. I really think that William Shatner is cool and Adrian Zmed really rocks!!!!! That is why I wish for it to come back on the TV screen.

I would love to see it back on TV real soon. Hopefully I'll see it on either Cable networks, whether it'll be TNT, TBS, or TVland. I hope to see LCPD POLICE DEPARTMENT go into action, because, without TJ HOOKER...there isn't enough Police action.

Yes, William Shatner is cool. And Adrian Zmed does rock. But what about the show's stance on moral values or victim's rights?

Subject: Amazing website

I'm still stunned by your riveting tribute to one of TV's great cop shows and, especially, King Shat. I watched T.J. Hooker beginning with its very first airing (the 90-minute pilot episode) and stayed home on Sat. nights through most of high school to watch the show. I didn't get to see the CBS episodes since my affiliate didn't air the CBS Late Movie (it ran Hawaii Five-0 reruns instead).

With all due respect to McGarrett and his crew of island-bound crimebusters: what the HELL was your local CBS affiliate thinking?

OUR APRIL FOOL'S PRANK

In a year of remarkable accomplishments, the single item that generated the most viewer mail had to be one that wasn't even real: our April Fool's press release for a fake T.J. Hooker reunion movie generated such ire and bitter gaul that we were left dumbfounded. In fact, we received so many nasty comments within 24 hours of its posting that we decided to print a retraction later in the week.

Let's face it, people, April Fool's is a time honored tradition, and everyone from your local radio station's zany morning crew to high-profile media outlets like ESPN have taken part in April Fool's merriment. Do you send everyone who plays a harmless prank on you hate mail? What follows is a selection of the best letters we received....

I would love to see a reunion show. I look forward to it very much. The joke was taken in good humor.

Thank you for one of the few decent emails we received on this subject.

A VERY cruel joke!

At least we wrote our press release in complete sentences.

Well, I read your announcement on the new TJ Hooker reunion movie. After I passed out from sheer excitement and happiness, I realized what today is-April Fool's Day!

Shame on you for printing such a cruel joke! And I actually believed it!

Anyway, I really love the site and think you guys are doing a fantastic job. Keep up the good work! But please, don't get our hopes up like that again! It's evil! :)

Thank you for your support.

Subject: IS THIS FOR REAL

Hello,
Are you serious about a T J Hooker reunion movie or is this a very cruel April fools joke?  PLease tell me this is for real and I will finally see TJ Hooker again.

No, it was a good-natured April Fool's joke.

Subject: April fools joke

Don't you guys know that April Fool's jokes are a little old by now?

You will have lost a lot of viewers with this prank, although it was not that difficult to spot! (Maybe 3 seconds)

No, April Fool's jokes aren't old. They only happen once a year.

Oh yeah, and thanks for your continued beligerent emails, by the way. I'm glad to see we lost you as a viewer.

We now continue with the rest of our viewer mail selections...

Subject: Masterful man...

Hello ang great respect to the creator of tj-hooker.com
I just want to say that your website is the work of a genius, obviously inspired by another genius (the TJ). We're 2 French fans of Hooker (though we both live in London) and never thought that anyone could be as mental as us with him. Yes, I guess Hooker is always great fun to watch...

Yes, Hooker is great fun to watch. And thank you for calling us geniuses. However, we are merely doing a job we love, we have no claims to a greater intellect than those around us merely because we've devoted our lives to celebrating T.J. Hooker (but we have more fun than most!).

Subject: Nice site :)

I've really enjoyed your TJ Hooker site.

I'm wondering if you've ever heard of anybody making Hooker character skins for the game "The Sims"?  I'd love to find some. I don't have the skills to make them myself, unfortunately. I doubt anyone has done it, but if they have I thought you might know about it. :)

Anyway, thanks for all you and your team's hard work on the site.
We always aim to please here at TJ-Hooker.com. This email inspired us to follow through on a project that had been on the back burner for quite some time, and the result was our incredible set of T.J. Hooker Sims™ Skins. See? Your letters do matter!

What about a poll that asks, which song would TJ Hooker butcher during a priceline.com commercial? "Every Breath You Take" by the Police maybe?

We're sorry, TJ-Hooker.com does not accept unsolicited content submissions.

Subject: HELLO

Hi,
I just spent 3 hours on your site it is a totally great site. I was doing a websearch on TJ HOOKER and found little and then I found you, Thanks for a GREAT site on this GREAT television show. Oh what I would do to be able to see the series again, by chance you wouldnt happen to have them would you? Every now and again one of the stations on my satellite will show the pilot and I watch it, it makes me yearn to see the episodes.
Thanks for a job well done.
It's letters like this that make it all worthwhile.

Subject: Question

Any news on whether TJ Hooker will ever be rerun on a cable channel again? I'm a big Shatner fan (active in the Bring Back Kirk campaign), and I decided that I want to own every episode of TJ Hooker on tape (having never seen the show but for a few reruns as a kid).
I want the complete TJ Hooker collection.

Don't we all? With the proliferation of cable networks and syndication services airing older television programs (TVLand, The National Network, the Screen Gems Network), we're keeping our fingers crossed that it's only a matter of time before our hero in blue returns to the small screen.

Nevertheless, we are more committed than ever to our NO HOOKER NO PEACE campaign to get the show released on video or DVD. We don't want to settle for cheap, pirated episodes that show up on eBay, so if you haven't already done so, please sign our NO HOOKER NO PEACE petition.

Subject: TJ Hooker and Ethics

Dear 4Adam30:

We used your TJ Hooker site for our first-day-of-class discussion on copyright. You have an interesting disclaimer at the bottom of your site about how there is no intentional violation of copyright. We basically discussed whether intention mattered and whether you had violated copyright regardless of intention. (In case you want to know what we think it's this: the copyright owner could shut you down--along with thousands of other fan sites--but since it's in their interests not to, they let you be.)

TJ-Hooker.com is proud to have been a part of the college education process. If anything can help the young people of today learn about ethics, it is T.J. Hooker.

Subject: Hello from a broadcaster in SF CA

Just discovered your delightful site--I'm SO tickled that your crew is doing it!

Longtime TJ fan...also equally appalled at the darned things...what can I say, in a way, love of Bill's work in general is a guilty pleasure. (It's)Amazing to me the way he kept going so hard in the 90's and built himself into an even bigger star and money-earner than I ever could have thought possible back in the day.

I do a weekly half-hour public-access show here in SF, and I feature something Bill-related every month or two, it seems. Recently I found an old chunk of TJ  on a videotape, that hadn't been labeled to contain any-I didn't know I HAD any TJ on tape---I was so excited (-Ha-ha-) that I ended up using a long clip of it on a recent show, re-scoring the credit sequence, among other things...

-Sounds like just another wacko Shatner fan I suppose...I actually have quite a background in music production (my  band Big City Orchestra has created numerous blasphemous Shatner projects in performance and recordings) and the Bill hell just goes on and on.

Anyway, just wanted to let you know about the theme music from part one of my mini-series "The Church Of Bill", which you might enjoy, can be found on MP3.com, under: ROBO (DREW DOBBS). That episode itself  is a thing of beauty, all black and white Bill footage, all pre-Trek, with an all-original score. Replete with copyright infringing. I'd gladly trade you a copy of that episode & sundry other info sometime, if you know of any TV broadcasters on your end who'd like to trade episodes with pub. access producers in other areas.

So, thanks again for creating another one of those sites that's just for those lucky folks who really need it--and those generations to come who need to get hip to TJ.

PS---of course you remember VOICE OF THE PLANET ....  my God--wasn't THAT something ! We won't see the like of that again...

Thanks for the update! We look forward to catching your show the next time we travel to San Francisco. Perhaps we could even arrange a walk-on?

Subject: Congratulation - great site

I just wanted to let you know that you have a really great site, very classy and to say thank you. I partuculary admire your enthusiasm and fresh approach. I also hope you succeed in getting TJ back in re-runs. For the life of me I cannot understand why it has never been put back on. Maybe now, they will.

From all of us at the WSC, thanks for really caring and doing something about it. You are a 10 in my book.

What prouder moment could the TJ-Hooker.com Staff have had during the past year? This note is one of the finest pieces of viewer mail we've received, and a fitting end to our celebration of the past 365 days' worth of email. Thank you all for writing in, and keep those letters coming!
