Launches TJ-Hooker.com Media Blitz at McGill U.
Leafleting, advertising campaign
opening salvo in the battle to get T.J. Hooker the recognition
it deserves
Montreal,
Canada - In a grassroots campaign designed to drum up interest
not only in a website but also a cultural phenomenon, TJ-Hooker.com
webmaster 4Adam30 travelled to the William Shatner University
Centre at McGill University in Montreal, Canada last week with
the sole purpose of spreading the word about T.J. Hooker.
While
visiting William Shatner's alma mater and home to a student union
that is only partially named after the star of T.J. Hooker
(see "The Mysterious Case of the Shatner Building"
in the accompanying sidebar), 4Adam30 spoke with students, distributed
fliers about TJ-Hooker.com, and inquired about advertising with
one of the popular campus newspapers.

STUDENT
REACTION FAVORABLE
When
approached about officially posting some fliers on the Shatner
Building's main bulletin board (seen by thousands of McGill students
daily), a student representative for the Students'
Society of McGill University said, "Is this for a website?
Cool. Yeah, no problem. I'll get these approved and posted for
you right away."
FLIER
DISTRIBUTION SUCCESSFUL
Afterwards,
4Adam30 posed for photos underneath the Shatner Building's welcome
sign, then distributed fliers around the building. When a janitor
removed one of the fliers from the building's welcome table, 4Adam30
knew he had his work cut out for him.
"I
had to be stealthy," he said later. "Moving like a wraith,
I planted as many fliers as I could in as many strategic places
as possible. We should start seeing the hits from McGill show
up any day now."
Fliers
were distributed throughout the cafeteria and several other strategic
points throughout the building, almost certainly violating university
policy. Whether they have had any effect whatsoever remains to
be seen.
POSSIBLE
NEWSPAPER ADVERTISEMENTS IN THE NEAR FUTURE
The
most successful portion of the media blitz occurred when 4Adam30
spoke with advertising representatives Boris and Sasha of the
McGill Daily, a student-run newspaper published three times
a week in both English and French editions.
"This
is great!" Boris said upon seeing one of the fliers (you
can check it out in the sidebar at right, "The Flier in
Question.") "Isn't it still on satellite somewhere?"
Boris
was extremely helpful in discussing possible advertising partnerships
in the future. Look for an ad for TJ-Hooker.com to be appearing
in the McGill Daily soon.

MEDIA
BLITZ ONLY JUST BEGINNING
When
asked for comment on the McGill campaign, 4Adam30 was extremely
positive. "I got a great reaction from everyone here, except
for that janitor I saw throw out one of my fliers," he said.
"We're going to try to spread this campaign as far across
the world as we can."

The
Mysterious Case of the Shatner Building
A
brochure (seen above) put out by the Students' Society of McGill
University (SSMU) explains the controversy surrounding the name
of McGill's student union building:
"The
University doesn't actually refer to the Student Union Building
as the William Shatner University Centre, defying a student-held
referendum on the divisive issue in the early '90s. The students
had voted in favour of changing the Student Union Building's name
to the William Shatner Building. However, the motion was deadlocked
in SSMU council and it's an unheard-of practice at McGill to name
a building after someone who is neither dead nor a contributor
to the construction of the edifice in question."

The
Flier in Question
The
flier 4Adam30 distributed liberally throughout the Shatner Building
appears above. Its headline, "This building didn't just
get its name because of Star Trek," was designed to shock
its readers into the realization that the career of William Shatner
is more diverse than most people give him credit for.
