An old war buddy of Hooker's, Detective Pete O'Brien is one of the most diligent and well-respected detectives of the LCPD. His dogged pursuit of evildoers, his superior tactical skills, and his almost Holmesian approach to reconstructing events at crime scenes have made him an extremely valuable asset--all of which have no doubt served to strengthen the friendship between O'Brien and Hooker.

However, being an old buddy of T.J. Hooker does not mean occasional conflicts won't arise between them, and O'Brien has had his share with Hooker. His crimefighting techniques, while extraordinary, sometimes seem too by-the-book for Hooker. When he feels like bending the rules, O'Brien isn't afraid to set him on the straight and narrow. Of course, that doesn't mean that Hooker will actually listen to him.

Although an injury has left him without the use of his legs, Pete O'Brien has never let that stand in the way of doing his job. His skills as an investigator immediately impressed Vince Romano, who learned a valuable lesson in judging a book by its cover the moment he saw O'Brien combing the scene of the gruesome murder of a nurse. Within moments, he had found a clue which both Romano and Hooker had missed, setting in motion a chain of events leading to the pursuit and capture of the troubled miscreant responsible.

When Romano moved on from the LCPD, O'Brien became a constant sounding board for Hooker's police work. His expertise became invaluable to Hooker as he would help in the formulation of plans which Hooker, Stacy and Corrigan would then put into action.
