"Lag Time" TJ-HOOKER.COM RATING:
Stacy loses her confidence after a procedural lapse with a robbery suspect nearly costs her her life.
During a robbery at a "fast cash" outlet, the security guard on duty is killed and Stacy is disarmed and almost killed by the suspect. Officer Shaeffer wants Stacy taken off the street and put behind a desk. During the investigation, Hooker learns a convict, Jack Lewis, had been teaching the disarmament procedure and has paroled. Hooker also learns that only one man, Tommy Ellison, specializes in custom sawed-off shotguns like the one used to kill the security guard. Hooker arrives at Ellison's just as he is gunned down by one of Lewis' men. El;lison, however, identifies Lewis before he dies. When Romano and Hooker visit Lewis' home they find his girlfriend, Cynthia Randolph, who claims that Lewis was with her the whole day. When she confronts Lewis with this later, he admits his guilt and bullies her into helping with the next heist. Meanwhile, Corrigan has learned that another woman, Janie, visited Lewis while he was in jail, and that coincidentally she is the operations officer for Commonwealth Thrift Bank which handles the "fast cash" account. As they are en route to Janie's branch, they receive word that the silent alarm has been activated at the bank. Upon arrival, they see Cynthia sitting behind the wheel of the getaway car. She readily reveals the location of another getaway car and Hooker and Stacy join forces to get Lewis. When Hooker is shot by Lewis, it takes all of Stacy's professionalism to get them out of danger.
