STREETSCUM
SWEEPER : INSTRUCTIONS
Point
of the Game
In
this game, you must help the four main cast members of T.J. Hooker [Stacy
Sheridan, Jim Corrigan, Vince Romano, and finally, T.J. Hooker himself],
avoid ever-growing swarms of enemies [Stacy battles Tori Spelling, Corrigan
battles evil Officer Roper, Romano battles the evil Troy from "Slay
Ride," and Hooker battles first Marjoe Gortner, then his arch-nemesis
the One-Handed Man]. You are armed only with a firearm (which has limited
shots), an ability to transport to random destinations (courtesy of "Star
Trek"), and your unrivaled intellect.
Luckily,
what the crooks have in numbers, they lack in intelligence. In their
reckless pursuit, the crooks can crash into one another, leaving their
dead bodies. Any crooks trying to move through the leftover corpses
will also be destroyed.
|
PLEASE
NOTE: This is a turn-based game, meaning that once
you make a move, the crooks make a move, but don't move again
until you make another move. This way, after every move you make,
you may pause and get your bearings before making another choice.
If you keep moving quickly without stopping to take a look around
you, the crooks will undoubtedly kill you instantly. Make your
moves one at a time, slowly, until you've become comfortable with
the game.
ALSO:
You must click your mouse on the game once it loads, before
you can use the keyboard. That will make the game "active"
so that it can accept keyboard commands.
|
The
Keyboard
The
game is entirely keyboard controlled. All available commands are listed
below.
- Movement
Move your hero by using the numeric keypad. Pressing "5" will
pass for the turn. There are also alternate keys for players
having trouble with the numeric keypad. Diagonal movement is allowed.
- Transporter
You can use Scotty's trusted Transporter beam by hitting "T".
Note that you have no control over your destination (most likely something
to do with the dilithium crystals or the Jeffries Tube or something).
Use this ability wisely or you may find yourself ignominiously crushed
by your foes.
- Firearm
Hit "S" to shoot your gun. This handy (plot) device only works
once, but will destroy any crooks immediately adjacent to you. The
number of remaining shots is displayed at the bottom of the screen.
Additional shots are awarded upon completion of a level.
- Last
Stand
When all else fails, pressing "L" will make a final stand,
allowing the crooks to keep moving until either you or all the crooks
have been killed.
Scoring
As you progress to higher levels, the crooks destroyed are worth increasing
numbers of points. No score is given for crooks destroyed with your firearm.
The
scoring rules penalize heavy use of your firearm. Fewer points are awarded
for each crook destroyed.
Notes
The
game design is heavily indebted to the author of the Macintosh shareware
game "Daleks" written over 10 years ago. If
you enjoy Streetscum Sweeper and also like british sci-fi juggernaut
Doctor Who, you will undoubtedly love the original Java
version of "Daleks,"
also written by Det. Pete O'Brien, and a mainstay of the world wide
internet for many years.
If
you did happen to like our version of the game, please email Det.
Pete O'Brien and give him some love.
